Schorsch/Emhardt Keep Rolling, Advance to Quarterfinals
Sophomores Jeffrey Schorsch and Charlie Emhardt will compete in the quarterfinals of the ITA Regionals doubles main draw Sunday at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The Valpo men's tennis program entered this week's ITA Regionals in search of its first ever doubles win. Fast forward ahead two days and sophomores Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) now stand two wins away from a date in the finals of the 64-team tournament. The young pair steamrolled their way into the quarterfinals Saturday with victories over Ohio State and Marquette at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The No.3 ranked Schorsch/Emhardt downed the Ohio State tandem of Matt Mendez and Riley Reist, 8-5 in the morning. The pair later handed Marquette's Vukasin Teofanovic/Nick Dykema an 8-3 defeat to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal round where they'll meet Notre Dame's Drew Dawson/Eric Schnurrenberger. The singles main draw begins at 8:00 am CT with doubles play to follow.

Sophomore Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and freshman Chase Hamilton (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) eliminated Marquette's Kristiyan Trukov/Andre Romanello with a quick 8-2 triumph. Their win pitted them against the No. 1 seeded team of Ralf Steinbach/Kevin Metka of Ohio State. Bacalla and Hamilton gave the Buckeyes a highly-competitive match before dropping an 8-5 decision.

The quarterfinals of the doubles draw are comprised of three Notre Dame teams and one team from Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, DePaul, and Valparaiso each.

In singles play, Schorsch bowed out of the main draw Saturday with a 7-6 (6), 6-3 loss to Illinois' Aron Hitzlik. Hitzlik entered the tourney as the 13th seed.
