Schorsch's Pair of Titles Highlight Active Saturday
Jeffrey Schorsch claimed the Flight A singles championship at the Valpo Fall Invitational and the Flight A doubles title alongside Charlie Emhardt.

Junior Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) teamed up with classmate Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) to finish off the Flight A doubles championship, 8-3, over DePaul's Sten Leusink/Ivan Divkovic. Just a few hours later, Schorsch downed Leusink in straight sets to capture the Flight A singles crown at the Valpo Fall Invitational held at the Valpo Tennis Complex. With Saturday's victories, Schorsch improved to a perfect 3-0 in both singles and doubles play.

Schorsch and Emhardt's 8-3 win in the final of Flight A doubles got things rolling. Sophomore Garrett Gardner (Poland, Ohio/Poland) and senior Brian Hickey (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) teamed up to dispatch Butler's Mason Dragos/Ari Gerstein, 8-6, in their first match of the morning. The Crusader duo dropped their ensuing match, 8-3, to the Cleveland State tandem of Andre Mick and Mirko Radosevic.

Schorsch advanced to the Flight A final with a grueling 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-3 victory over DePaul's Alex Galoustian. Schorsch and Leusink went to a first-set tiebreaker before the Valpo lefty emerged with a 7-6 (3), 6-0 triumph.

The Crusaders were represented in the final rounds of Flight B and C, but were denied in both instances at the hands of Horizon League foe Cleveland State.

Emhardt moved on to the Flight B final with a rather easy 6-2, 6-1 win versus Chicago State's Christian Gonzalez, but Cleveland State's Ben Slade took that segment, 6-2, 6-4, over Emhardt.

Gardner rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory against Andre Mick in the semis, but dropped a 7-6 (7), 4-6. 6-1 marathon match to Cleveland State's Kevin Goth in the Flight C final.

Hickey lost a tight 6-2, 7-5 decision to Max Renke of DePaul in the second round of Flight E singles. Hickey was victorious in the first set of his third place match, but Butler's Lope Adelakun came back for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win.

The Crusaders racked up three wins in day two of the 40th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic.

Freshman Chad Kissell (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) recorded his first collegiate win with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Marquette's Alvaro Verdu. Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) also helped Valpo's cause following his 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 dismissal of Nick Dykema.

Daniel Fernandez dealt Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) a 6-2, 6-0 defeat. Mackenzie Stearns and Michael Savaglio (Kenosha, Wis./Mary D. Bradford) went back-and-forth before the Marquette junior prevailed with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 triumph.

Kristiyan Trukov and Lucas Waak (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) also went three sets, but Trukov emerged with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 result. Andre Romanello wrapped things up with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Danny Oakes (Elburn, Ill./Saint Charles North).

Waak was the recipient of the tournament's Sportsmanship Award on Saturday.

Sunday represents the final day of action at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The Crusaders will take on Wisconsin in doubles play at 9:00 a.m. CT before squaring off with Ball State in singles play at 11:00 a.m. CT.
