The Valpo men's tennis team won't have far to travel for its opening match of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The Crusaders learned Tuesday they'll make the short trip over to Evanston, Illinois to take on the 14th-ranked Northwestern Wildcats. The two teams last met on February 23rd, 2014. This time there'll be much more on the line when they square off next Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm CT.
Valpo enters the NCAA Tournament on a 12-match winning streak, its most recent victory came in the finals of the Horizon League Championship in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Crusaders defeated Green Bay 4-0 to clinch their first-ever HL title.
Two-time Horizon League Player of the Year Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and All-League Second Team recipient Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) defeated the Wildcats' No. 1 tandem of Strong Kirchheimer and Fedor Baev 8-4 this past October during the quarterfinals of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
