Crusaders Finish 7th at Pacesetter Invitational

The Valparaiso men’s track and field team finished in seventh place at the Pacesetter Invitational on Saturday afternoon held in Terre Haute Ind.

The Crusaders tallied 14 points on the day, while the host Sycamores of Indiana State took home the team title with 189 points.

Valpo had success in the hurdles on the day, scoring in both the 110m and 400m events. Sean Barfield (University Place, Wash./Curtis H.S.) placed seventh in the 110m event with a time of 15.44 seconds, and was the fourth collegian across the finish line. Kurtis Taylor also tallied points for the Brown and Gold in the event with a time of 15.55 seconds.

In the 400m hurdles, Adam Wierciak (Ottawa, Ill./Marquette H.S.) placed eighth overall and fifth among college athletes with his time of 57.62 seconds.

On the infield, Kristopher Schmautz (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate H.S.) finished in seventh place in the javelin with a heave of 169’0”. Todd Goodrick (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester H.S.) placed 11th in the shot put with a toss of 43’3”, while Brian Schultz (Sheboygan, Wis./South H.S.) finished 14th in the triple jump with a leap of 43’2 Ύ”.

The Crusaders will return to action next weekend when they travel to the Drake Relays and the Boilermaker Open.
