Valparaiso University's Elliot Powell (Orange, Calif./Santa Ana H.S.) was named the Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week after posting three top-three finishes at the Crusaders' season-opening meet this past weekend.

Powell won the 200m dash with a time of 22.78 seconds at the Carthage Division I Invitational and ran the anchor leg on the victorious 4x200m relay (1:32.80). The senior also finished third in the 55m dash with a mark of 6.61 seconds, helping the Brown and Gold to a third place finish at the meet. His time in the 55m is the Mid-Con's top mark thus far this season.
