Bell Sets School Mark at Stan Lyons Invitational

Bryan Bell (Bellevue, Neb./East H.S.) set a school record in the hammer throw as Valparaiso competed at the Stan Lyons Invitational on Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind.

The sophomore finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 163'1", bettering Matt Larson's (Arlington Heights, Ill./Saint Viator H.S.) mark from earlier this year by 1'8". Bell also finished second in the shot put with a toss of 49'1". Teammate Todd Goodrick (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester H.S.) won the shot with his heave of 49'9 ¼".

Also on the infield, Steve Bartholomew (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township H.S.) placed second in the discus with a toss of 154'4" and Eric Smith (Portage, Ind./Portage H.S.) finished third with his mark of 146'2".

Mark Lincoln (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham H.S.) finished third in the javelin with a throw of 176'3". In the jumps, Joshua Lee (Yellow Jacket, Colo./Montezuma-Cortez H.S.) was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 21'9" while David Kranich (Seattle, Wash./Lutheran H.S.) earned the same finish in the triple jump with a mark of 38'5 ½". Kranich also finished sixth in the high jump clearing 5'7".

On the oval, Adriano Schultz (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights H.S.) was fourth in the 3,000m steeple chase with a time of 9:55.99. Dennis Kabara (Chuka, Kenya/Meru H.S.) was tenth in the 800m and Adam Piaskowy (Crete, Ill./Crete-Monee H.S.) was 11th in the 5,000m as Valpo's top finishers.

Valparaiso will head to the Mid-Continent Conference Championships in Kansas City, Mo. on May 12-14.
