Crusaders Conclude Competition at Gina Relays

The Valparaiso men's track and field team finished with some strong individual performances on the last of three days of competition Saturday at the Hillsdale Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich.

Philip Lohrmann (Battle Ground, Wash./Battle Ground [Clark C.C.]) moved into second on the Crusaders' all-time top-five in the pole vault, registering a height of 14'5 ¼". Lohrmann, who set the indoor pole vault record earlier this year, finished in 19th place out of 51 competitors.

Steve Bartholomew (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) posted the best finish by a Crusader on the day, coming in fourth place in a field of 58 athletes in the discus throw. The reigning Mid-Con Athlete of the Week recorded a toss of 165'11".

On the track, Tom Heun (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) set a new personal-best time in the 110m hurdles, finishing the race in 15.76, good for 13th place. Chris Honig (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South [Indiana]) came home 33rd out of 107 runners in the 1,500m run, lowering his Crusader-best time this year to 4:03.08.

Valparaiso returns to the track next Saturday as the Crusaders take part in the Butler Twilight Meet in Indianapolis, Ind. The first event is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. CDT.
