Meet Results

Chris Honig (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South [Indiana]) and Steve Bartholomew (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) each posted runner-up finishes Saturday to help lead the Valparaiso men’s track and field team to a sixth-place finish at the Miami Team Challenge in Oxford, Ohio.

            The Crusaders totaled 41 points over the two-day meet to place sixth.  The host RedHawks took top team honors with 260.5 points.

            Honig took runner-up honors in the steeplechase Saturday, crossing the line in 9:31.78, just five seconds behind the race winner.  Bartholomew earned his second-place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 155’11”.  

            Joel Mathwig (Fall Creek, Wis./Fall Creek) joined Honig in the top-ten in the steeplechase, placing ninth with a time of 10:49.94.  Also on the track, Tom Heun (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) came home sixth in the 110m hurdles, crossing the line in 15.46 seconds.

            On the infield, freshman Jarrett Mickens (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) posted two top-ten finishes in the jumps, placing fourth in the triple jump (42’9 ½”) and seventh in the long jump (20’11 ¼”).  Steve Schubert (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) joined Mickens in the top-ten in the triple jump, leaping 38’9” for an eighth-place showing.  Philip Lohrmann (Battle Ground, Wash./Battle Ground [Clark C.C.]) and Caleb Meyer (Seward, Neb./Seward) placed sixth and tenth in the pole vault, respectively, with heights of 14’1 ¼” and 13’1 ½”.

            Valparaiso returns to the track next Saturday, April 19 at the Puma Invitational in Rensselaer, Ind.  The meet is slated to begin at 10 a.m. CDT.
