Valparaiso track and field head coach Ryan Moore announced that Peter McNaughton has joined the Crusader coaching staff as an assistant coach, responsible primarily for coaching the sprinters and hurdlers.

McNaughton comes to Valpo after serving as the head sprints/hurdles coach last year at Millikin University.  While with the Big Blue, he coached the school record-holder and national qualifier in the 55m dash, as well as a national qualifier in the long jump.  Seven of his athletes received All-Conference recognition last season.

Prior to his stint at Millikin, McNaughton spent three years as the assistant sprints/hurdles coach at Augustana College, where he was part of the 2007 conference coaching staff of the year.  During his tenure with the Vikings, he coached four NCAA Division III All-Americans, including two national champions, as well as seven conference champions and 48 All-Conference selections.  McNaughton has also previously served as an assistant coach at Knox College, where he coached an All-Conference honoree in the high hurdles.

McNaughton ran collegiately at Monmouth College and was inducted into the Monmouth College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.  A two-time national qualifier in the 110m hurdles, he earned All-American accolades in 1987 after finishing fourth at the NCAA Championships.  A nine-time conference champion, McNaughton broke school records during his time at Monmouth in the 110m hurdles, 200m dash and 300m dash, and was also an All-Conference performer on the pitch for the Fighting Scots’ men’s soccer team.

McNaughton earned a bachelor’s degree from Monmouth College in business administration in 1988.  He currently holds his USATF Level 3 Certification in Sprints/Hurdles, as well as Level 2 Certification in Multi Events and Distance.
