Pair of Crusaders Compete at Georgia Tech Invitational

Valparaiso sprinters Julian Smith (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) and Nick Kowaleski (Lockbourne, Ohio/Grove City) competed this weekend in the 100m and 200m dashes at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.

Friday saw the Crusader duo take to the track in the preliminaries of the 100m dash, but neither Smith nor Kowaleski was able to qualify for the event finals. The sophomore Smith posted the better time of the duo, running his heat in 10.80 seconds, which ranked 39th out of the elite field of 65 runners who competed in the prelims. The freshman Kowaleski ranked 51st with a time of 10.88 seconds.

Smith also posted the top time out of the two runners on Saturday in the qualifying heats for the 200m dash.  The sophomore covered the distance in 21.90 seconds, 40th best out of the 55 who started the event, while Kowaleski posted a time of 22.08 seconds, which ranked 44th in the field of entrants.
