Zosso Finishes First at Day One of the HL Indoor Championships

At day one of the Horizon League Indoor Championships, Justin Zosso (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) broke his own school record on his way to winning his first individual championship in the pole vault.

Zosso cleared 15’1” in the event, topping his previous school record of 14’11 ½” which he set earlier this season. Freshman Jordan Kelly (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) finished third in the same event, clearing 14’5 ¼”.

In the weight throw, Jacob Smutz (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) and Jacob Frey (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) finished third and sixth, respectively. Smutz threw for a season-best 59’11”. With the effort, Smutz now sits at second on the Crusaders all-time chart for the event. Frey threw for 55’1”, a personal-best this season.

After day one of the Horizon League Championships, the Crusader men sit in third-place with 24 points. Action resumes Sunday, March 2 at the Watson and Tressel Training Site at Youngstown State. A link to the live stats and video will be available at
