Several members of the Valparaiso track and field team took to the oval on Saturday afternoon at the Canon Invitational in Indianapolis.
Aaron Crague (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) earned Valpo's top finish on the afternoon, finishing fifth in the 3,000m. His time of 8:23.03 improved upon his conference-best time of the season.
Nate Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) placed sixth in the mile with a personal best time of 4:16.29, while teammate Dennis Kabara (Chuka, Kenya/Meru H.S.) also turned in a personal best 4:30.29 in the same event.
In the sprints, Raphael Awoseyin (Port Harcourt, Nigeria/Greater Tomorrow Secondary School) raced to a pair of personal bests. In the 200m dash, the junior finished 18th with a time of 22.95 seconds, while crossing the finish line in 52.24 seconds in the 400m.
Kyle Jones (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) was Valpo's top finisher in the 800m with a time of 1:59.67.
The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday at the Chicagoland Championships in Romeoville, Ill., the team's final tune-up for the Mid-Continent Conference Championships.
