Crusaders Place 11th at Miami Invitational

Steve Bartholomew (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township H.S.) posted two top-five finishes, leading Valparaiso to an 11th place finish Saturday at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.

The Crusaders registered 14 points for the meet, finishing just one point out of a tie for 9th place. The host RedHawks captured the team crown, compiling 204 points.

Bartholomew's toss of 153'6" in the discus was good for second place in the event. He followed that effort with a mark of 160'0" in the hammer throw, finishing fifth.

Erik Lindamood (Bealeton, Va./Liberty H.S.) and Jeff Swihart (Wakarusa, Ind./Northwood H.S.) each posted two top-15 finishes in the throws as well for the Brown and Gold. Lindamood placed seventh in the shot put (43'8 ½") and 11th in the discus throw (131'9"), while Swihart notched a ninth-place finish in the hammer throw (148'4") to go along with 13th place in the shot put (41'5 ¾").

Wesley Kosko (Emporia, Kan./Emporia H.S.) recorded the best finish for the Crusaders on the track, coming home 12th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.87 seconds. He also finished 18th, running the 200m dash in 24.35 seconds.

Rich Krupar (Elyria, Ohio/Midview H.S.) crossed the line 21st in the 800m run (2:00.77) and 23rd in the mile run (4:36.65), while David Wheeler (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East H.S.) led the Crusader contingent in the 5,000m run, finishing 22nd in 15:46.75.

Valparaiso returns to the track next weekend to take part in the Pacesetter Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. Action begins Friday, April 14 at 2:30 p.m. on the campus of Indiana State University, before moving to the campus of Rose-Hulman Institute for Saturday's events, beginning at 11:00 a.m. CDT.
