Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Senior thrower Steve Bartholomew (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) was named the Horizon League’s Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week today after qualifying for the NCAA regional meet in two events on Saturday.  The honor is Bartholomew’s second of the outdoor campaign.

Bartholomew broke his own school record by over three feet to win the hammer throw at the Puma Invitational, registering a mark of 194’9”, surpassing the regional qualifying standard by better than eight feet.  He followed with a toss of 169’10” in the discus throw to reach the qualifying mark in that event as well, coming up just six inches shy of his school record.
