Valparaiso sophomore Julian Smith (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) has been named the Most Outstanding Male Track Performer of the 2012 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships after winning a pair of sprints, including one record-setting performance.

Smith received the honor, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, after breaking the previous league outdoor championship record in the 100m dash, winning the event with a time of 10.56 seconds.  The sophomore also earned the event victory in the 200m dash by crossing the line in 21.41 seconds, over four-tenths of a second ahead of his nearest competitor.
