Crusader Men Earn Four Wins on Saturday
Nick Kowaleski won the 60m dash on Saturday.

The Valparaiso men's track and field team earned four event victories as it opened the 2012-2013 indoor season on Saturday in Fort Wayne, Ind. at the Mastodon Opener.

On the infield, Andrew Rixon took top honors in the shot put with a toss of 48'2”, while Jacob Frey earned the win in the weight throw, registering a mark of 49'5”. Meanwhile, on the track, Nick Kowaleski moved into fourth in Crusader history in the 60m dash, winning the event final in 7.01 seconds, while the squad of Drew Baker, Tyler Crum, Matt Filipak and Antwon Hatchett took the win in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:46.92.

Elsewhere on the track, Kevin Adamik ran to a second-place finish in the 200m dash, posting a time of 23.18 seconds, while Joe Holy crossed the line in fourth place in the same event, covering the distance in 23.59 seconds. Alex Ahlgrim finished fifth in the 800m run with a time of 2:11.06 as well.

Elijah Owen posted Valpo's top finish in the long jump, leaping 17'9” for a second-place finish, while Barrett Rehm cleared 12'5 1/2” in the pole vault to finish third. Pete Rufo successfully cleared 6'0 3/4” in the high jump, posting a fourth-place finish.

Valparaiso is scheduled to compete at the Redbird Open next Saturday, Dec. 8, in Normal, Ill., its final meet before the holiday break.
