Barrett Rehm (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) won the pole vault, and Nick Kowaleski (Lockbourne, Ohio/Grove City) and Elijah Owen (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) each took two top-three finishes to lead the Valparaiso men’s track team to a pair of dual meet wins at the IPFW Quadrangular in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The Crusaders beat Butler 68.00-57.00 and defeated Oakland 71.00-54.00. Valparaiso dropped a meet to Detroit 101.00-28.00.
Rehm cleared 12’ 5 ½” to take top honors in the pole vault.
Kowaleski finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.07 seconds, and he took third in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 23.61 seconds. He also finished sixth in the long jump.
Owen finished third in both the long jump (19’0”) and triple jump (36’ ½”). He also took fourth in the high jump, clearing 6’ ¾”.
Also on the track, Andrew Butts (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.02 seconds.
David Rutkowski (Cedarburg, Wis./Living Word Lutheran) placed fifth in the 3000-meter run, crossing the line in 9:09.83.
Jacob Frey (St. Paul, Minn/Roseville Area) took second in the weight throw with a toss of 50’3 ½”. Andrew Rixon (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) and Ryan Stegenga (South Holland, Ill./Illiana Christian) finished third and fourth.
Ethan Killian (Nappanee, Ind./Northwood) took sixth in the shot put with a best distance of 41’8 ½”.
Valparaiso returns to action at the Youngstown State National Invitational Youngtown, Ohio on Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb, 2.
