Crusader men sit in sixth after first day of Horizon League Indoor Championships

Barrett Rehm (Watertown, Wis./Watertown), Jacob Frey (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) and the distance medley relay team each recorded sixth-place finishes to lead the Valparaiso men’s track and field team at the first day of the Horizon League Indoor Championships at the Watson and Tressel Training Site in Youngstown, Ohio on Saturday.

The Crusaders are sixth after five with three points. Loyola leads with 57 points, and Milwaukee is in second with 45.

Rehm cleared 13’1 ¾” in the pole vault to take sixth.

Frey’s mark of 50’0” in the weight throw was good enough for sixth place. Chris Sosnowski (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central) finished in eighth with a distance of 45’7”.

The distance medley relay squad of Eric Loria (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central), Mickey Delcambre (Westfield, Ind./Westfield), Chad Brooks and Joe Johnson (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) ran a season-best time of 11:06.99.

Nick Kowaleski (Lockbourne, Ohio/Grove City) ran a season-best time in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 22.35 seconds. He also posted a time of 7.01 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash.

Austin Palombizio (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) posted a season-best time in the 800-meter run, crossing the line with a final time of 1:59.48.
