Crusaders Smother Flames 3-0
Tuesday, September 27, 2005
Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) became Valpo's all-time leader in solo blocks as the Crusaders cruised to a non-conference win Tuesday night against UIC, 30-24, 30-25, 30-25 at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

Mikos recorded the 124th solo block of her career midway through the third game, passing Jennifer Walton to assume the top spot. Mikos is now the career and single-season record holder in total and solo blocks, and also holds nearly every single-match blocks record.

On this night, however, it was Mikos' offense that led the Crusaders to a win, as the senior had a match-high 13 kills while hitting .667, also tops in the match. Defending Mid-Con Player of the Week Amy Palash (Winfield, Ill./Saint Francis) added 12 kills for Valpo, the seventh-straight match she has been in double figures.

The Crusader defense had another strong night, notching 11 blocks, led by six from Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin) and five from Jessie Fox (Granger, Ind./Penn). Katie Bova (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) had a match-high 17 digs and 41 assists.

Katarina Nedeljkovic led UIC (5-10) with 13 kills and 14 digs.

Valpo (12-3) continues a three-match homestand against Chicago State Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The match can be heard live on 95.1 FM, WVUR, or online at www.valpo.edu/athletics.
