Kyle Ekberg has joined the Valparaiso track and field coaching staff as an assistant coach for the 2012-2013 season.  He will be working directly with the Crusaders' sprinters and hurdlers.

Ekberg was a two-time NCAA Division III All-American at Augustana College, earning the national accolade for the 400m dash, as well as part of the Vikings' 4x400m relay squad.  He served as team captain and was named Most Valuable Athlete on a squad which annually finished in the top-five nationally in the D-III power rankings.  Ekberg closed his career holding three of Augustana's program records as well.

Ekberg previously served as an assistant coach at Rockford Christian [Ill.] H.S. for the 2010-2011 season, where he worked with the sprinters and jumpers.  His 4x400m relay squad set a school record and earned a runner-up finish at the state meet, one of two sprint relays to earn All-State honors as Rockford Christian finished third at states.

Ekberg, who also serves as an assistant event manager for the Valparaiso athletic department, graduated from Augustana in the spring of 2009 with a bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration.  He is currently working towards his master's degree in sports administration at Valparaiso.  Ekberg holds his USATF Level 1 coaching certification.
