Tuesday, April 15, 2003

West Lafayette, Ind. - Marc Boggio's two-run homer in the seventh inning tied the game at 4-4, but Purdue scored six times in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Crusaders 10-4. Brandon Sadler had two hits and two RBIs, and Boggio also had two hits for Valpo (8-18-1).

The Crusaders took a 2-0 lead in the third when Sadler delivered a two-out, two-run single to center, scoring Peickert, who had walked, and Boggio, who singled and stole second.

The Boilermakers (18-14) scored three in the bottom of the third on four hits. Nick McIntyre and Simon Klink had RBI singles, and John Manuel drew a walk with the bases loaded. Purdue added another run in the fifth on Tyler Johnstone's RBI single to increase its lead to 4-2.

In the seventh, Eric Snyder walked with one out and scored on Boggio's blast over the left field wall - his second home run of the season.

Purdue's six-run eighth began when two walks and a fielder's choice bunt loaded the bases, and Eric Wolfe walked to force in the go-ahead run. A two-run double by Andy Rempel and a two-run single by McIntyre ignited the Boilermakers' big inning.

Valpo used five pitchers as Kyle Obenauf started and allowed three runs in 2 2/3 innings. Justin Lata (0-1) took the loss in relief. Purdue sent four pitchers to the mound with Jason Driscoll (3-2) picking up the win with 2 innings of relief.

Rempel and McIntyre each had three hits for Purdue.
