Valpo Ties School Mark with 10th Consecutive Win

Valparaiso tied a school record on Saturday evening, winning its tenth consecutive match by defeating Chicago State at home in the Athletics-Recreation Center 30-16, 30-25, 30-28.

The Crusaders hit an astonishing .472 with 19 kills and just two errors in the opening game on the way to an easy victory. Game two saw Valpo use a 9-0 run midway through on the way to the win. Chicago State battled until the end in game three though, scoring five straight points before the Crusaders finished the match.

Jessie Fox (Granger, Ind./Penn H.S.) led the way for Valpo with 13 kills, hitting .520 along the way. She added a match-high four blocks for the Brown and Gold as well. Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) continued her stellar play, hitting .429 with 11 kills and three blocks.

Katie Bova (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels H.S.) dished out 39 assists while leading the team to a .276 hitting night. Amy Palash (Winfield, Ill../Saint Francis H.S.) added a match-high 19 digs, while Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) and Lindsey Moore (Wakarusa, Ind./Penn H.S.) each chipped in 11 more.

Stacey Cole led Chicago State with a match-high 15 kills, but was held to a .044 hitting percentage. Cole, along with Alison West and Natalie Spelman each had a team-high ten digs for the Cougars.

Chicago State (7-12, 2-3 Mid-Con) was held to .081 hitting on the evening with 38 kills. The Cougars outdug Valpo 58-55, but the Crusaders outblocked the visitors 6-3.

Valparaiso (16-3, 6-0) will look to extend its winning streak on Tuesday evening with a 7 p.m. match at home against Toledo. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
