Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) won her first match of the fall season for Valparaiso at number one singles but it was not enough as the Crusaders dropped a 6-1 decision to Oakland on Sunday morning in Rochester, Mich.
Sajevic posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Lindsay Grimmer to earn the Crusaders lone point of the day. The Golden Grizzlies won the other five singles matches in straight sets. Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) played Valpo’s closest match at number six singles, falling 7-5, 6-3 to Lisa Lulgjuraj.
In doubles action, Oakland won all three matches to earn the day’s first point. Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) and Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) extended their number one doubles match before falling 9-7.
Valparaiso will return to action next weekend to compete in the Hinds-Kellogg Classic in Macomb, Ill. hosted by Western Illinois.
