Crusader outfielder Karen Korb (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) earned a pair of Horizon League accolades on Friday. The senior was named the league's Player of the Week and followed by being named the U.S. Army Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 8.
Korb sparked the Valpo offense out of the leadoff spot all week long, hitting .452 (14-for-31) with nine runs scored as the Crusaders went 5-3 during the week at the Rebel Spring Games. The senior tallied five multi-hit games over the eight-game stretch, including three 3-hit games. Korb also stole ten bases without getting caught once, extending her Valpo career record to 75 swipes, and also moved into the Crusaders’ all-time top-five in career runs scored.
In the classroom, Korb maintains a 3.94 GPA as a finance and marketing double major. One of thirty candidates for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, Korb was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V First Team as a junior after earning Second Team honors as a sophomore. She has earned Valpo Presidential academic honors and been named to the Dean’s List each of her semesters as a Crusader. This is Korb’s second career Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor from the Horizon League.
Korb and the rest of the Crusaders, who finished their time at the Rebel Spring Games with a 12-5 record, return to action on Wednesday at Ball State for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. CST.
