For the third time in the last four matches Valparaiso played at home on Wednesday afternoon, but the Crusaders were unable to defeat Wayne State, falling 7-0 at the Valpo Tennis Complex.

Wayne State (17-6) opened the match sweeping all three doubles contests.  Sharon Gill and Milena Vuksanovic defeated Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) and Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) 8-2 at the top of the lineup while Debora Correa and Kristina Goranskaya were 8-1 victors against Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) at the second spot.  Third doubles saw the Warriors’ Meghan Luzod and Sargam Bhatt top Julie Wingstrom (Dallas Lake, Ind./Westview H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (DePere, Wis./DePere H.S.) 8-4.

In singles action, the Warriors won all six matches in straight sets.  Keifer battled Goranskaya at number two singles before falling 6-2, 7-5 while Bilyeu dropped a close 7-5, 6-3 match at the third spot to Vuksanovic.  Wingstrom also had a close sixth singles contest against Jennifer Bradford before falling 6-3, 7-5.

Gill topped Sajevic 6-2, 6-0 at the top of the lineup while Correa was a 6-3, 6-1 victor against York at four.  Luzod downed Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth singles contest.

“We had lots of close matches today,” head coach Traci Young said.  “We’re really excited to play Green Bay tomorrow and hopefully we’re ready to go.”

Valparaiso (1-16) will return to the Valpo Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. to face Green Bay in Horizon League action.
