Approximately 430 Valparaiso University student-athletes opened the school year on Monday evening at the annual student-athlete picnic held at Brown Field.

The event, in which the teams, coaches, and department staff were introduced, kicked off what is sure to be an exciting year in Crusader sports.  A barbeque dinner, games, and fun were all part of the night's activities.

Valparaiso University president Mark A. Heckler, director of athletics Mark LaBarbera, and Horizon League commissioner Jon LeCrone were all part of the festivities.
