Despite being on the last day of class before Thanksgiving break, the student section was jam-packed with fans, as Valpo raised money for cancer research in the name of Homer and Janet Drew during the Crusaders much-anticipated match-up with Akron.

296 students stayed to support Crusader basketball and the Drew family's fight against cancer. Wearing powder blue to represent Homer Drew's fight against prostate cancer, the ValparaiZone showed up in big numbers and made their presence known as the raucous crowd cheered the Crusaders to a 62-59 nailbiter victory over a quality Akron squad that won 23 games and was an NCAA tournament team last year. Kevin Van Wijk led the way for the Crusaders with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

After taking on Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse this Saturday, the Crusaders return to the ARC's hardwood December 10 against another potential NCAA tournament team Bowling Green.
