Crusaders Take down Detroit, Look to Wright State

Friday, February 03, 2012

The Crusaders pulled off another important victory last night in a nailbiter. After trailing most of the game, Valpo's ability to execute on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court propelled them to the victory.

The Crusaders shot 54.5% from the floor including 12 three-pointers. A crucial component of Valpo's second-half success was that the Crusaders were able to get several easy baskets in the paint. Moreover, the Valpo defense was able to stifle the extremely athletic Detroit squad. Ryan Broekhoff led the Crusaders with a career-high 26 point performance, including a perfect 6-for-6 from three. The Valpo bench also came up huge, outscoring the Detroit bench 31-19. Leading the Crusaders bench effort was Richie Edwards who posted 16 points and 6 rebounds in 21 minutes of action and also played phenomenal defense while battling in the post against the Detroit bigs.

On Saturday, Valpo returns to the hardwood to take on Wright State at 7:05. Wright State got the best of the Crusaders earlier in the season, beating Valpo 73-55. Saturday's grudge match is also Greek Night at the ARC. Fraternity and sorority members are encouraged to represent their Greek organization by wearing letters or rush shirts. More importantly, members of each fraternity and sorority can sign in at the ValparaiZone tent and the fraternity and sorority with the most people at the game will each receive a pizza party. Fraternity and sorority members will also be competing against each other for bragging rights in timeout activities.

As usual, a 6:00 pregame meal will begin the game festivities, here is Saturday's menu:
