Valparaiso played the first two rounds of the Beu Mussatto Invitational on Monday afternoon, shooting rounds of 314 and 312, and is currently in ninth place with a total of 626 at Harry Mussatto Golf Course in Macomb, Ill.
The Crusaders trail eighth place Bradley by 13 shots heading into Tuesday’s final round. Indian Hills Community College leads the tournament by four shots over North Dakota State after firing 594 on day one.
Kyle Henning (Brookfield, Wis./East H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold with rounds of 75 and 77 for a 152 total, and is tied for 23rd through 36 holes.
Thomas Wettstein (Neenah, Wis./Xavier H.S.) carded rounds of 80 and 77 for a 157 total on the 6,862-yard, par-72 layout while Joe Harris (Washington, Iowa/Washington H.S.) also shot 157 after firing a 76 and an 81. Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward H.S.) turned in back-to-back rounds of 79 to shoot 158 on day one while Austin Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger H.S.) carded 159 after shooting 80 and 79 in rounds one and two. Josh Kalita (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) rounded out the Valpo lineup with a 172 with rounds of 85 and 87.
Indiana’s Nicholas Grubnich leads the tournament individually at three-under par 141 (71-70).
Valparaiso will return to the course on Tuesday morning for the final 18 holes. The shotgun start begins at 7:30 a.m.
