Valpo and Oakland Battle to Scoreless Tie

The top two teams in the Mid-Continent Conference battled for 110 minutes, but neither team was able to find the back of the net as Valparaiso and Oakland played to a 0-0 tie on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, Mich.

The Golden Grizzlies held a 28-9 shot advantage in the match, including a 15-4 advantage in the second half, but Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made saves, even in the second half, to earn the tie. Oakland also outshot Valpo 4-1 in the overtime sessions.

Oakland also held a 13-5 advantage on corner kicks, including a 5-0 advantage in overtime.

Jeff Wiese made five saves for the Golden Grizzlies in the shutout.

Both teams are now 2-1-1 in Mid-Con action with one match remaining. Valpo (5-8-2 overall) travels to Western Illinois next Sunday for a 1:30 p.m. match, while Oakland hosts UMKC next Friday in their conference finale.

After playing just two scoreless ties in school history entering the season, the Crusaders have earned to 0-0 ties this year. They also were scoreless with Evansville.
