Valparaiso's women's tennis team dropped the first match of its spring break trip in Southern California, falling 6-1 at San Diego on Sunday afternoon.

The Toreros won all three doubles matches fairly handily, by scores of 8-2, 8-1, and 8-1.

In singles play, San Diego (2-3) won each at each of the top five spots, but Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) posted the lone win for the Crusaders at sixth singles. The freshman rallied from a set down to tally a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory for the Crusaders.

Valpo (1-4) will return to the courts on Tuesday afternoon as the Brown and Gold travels to Grossmont for a 4 p.m. CST match.
