Valparaiso University's Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week after leading the Crusaders to a season-opening victory over Bradley last Saturday.

The sophomore was a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 victor at first singles for the Brown and Gold, while teaming with Jill Dierberg (Saint Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.) for an 8-4 win at third doubles.

Janssen joins Monika Danko (Northfield, Ill./New Trier H.S.) and Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./North H.S.) as Athlete of the Week selections for Valpo this year. Danko and Chada earned the honor during the fall campaign.
