Three Records Help Wilson Earn Athlete of the Week Honors

Tuesday, January 18, 2005

Melanie Wilson (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain H.S.) captured three first place finishes and broke three school records at the Carthage Division I Invitational on Saturday, helping earn her Mid-Continent Conference Co-Athlete of the Week honors.

The freshman won the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.44 seconds, while also capturing the long jump and triple jump. Her leap in the triple jump of 37'6 ½" is the top mark in the conference this season, while she turned in a 17'11 ½" effort in the long jump to win that event in her first collegiate meet. Wilson helped lead Valpo to a runner-up finish as a team.
