Valparaiso University's Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week after leading the Crusaders to a season-opening victory over the University of Chicago on Saturday.

The junior posted a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 victory at first singles and also teamed with Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) at number one doubles for an 8-4 win, as the Crusaders downed the Maroons 7-0.

Janssen is the third Crusader this school year to earn the honor, as Jill Dierberg (Saint Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.) and Charmaine Stanislaw (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville H.S.) both earned the award during the fall season.
