Crusaders Set Two School Records at Butler
Saturday, May 05, 2007Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau) broke her own school record in the shot put, while Valparaiso's 4x100m relay team also set a new school record as the Crusaders competed Saturday at the Butler Twilight meet in Indianapolis, Ind.
Marsicek registered a toss of 44'8 ¼" in the shot put Saturday, surpassing her own previous best for the second time this year. The redshirt junior's toss was good for fourth place out of the 26-person field.
The 4x100m relay squad crossed the finish line in 48.33, taking third place out of seven teams. Three of the four runners were part of last year's squad that set the previous record of 48.63.
Danielle Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) was the only Crusader to earn individual medalist honors. The senior crossed the line first in the 800m run with a time of 2:15.47.
Ini Umana (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) continued her solid freshman season in the discus throw, registering a personal-best toss of 133'9" to finish in sixth place. The toss also is the second-best in Crusader history. Lindsey Gilman (South Bend, Ind./Marian) moved into fourth all-time at Valpo in the javelin throw, finishing in second place with a throw of 117'5".
Carissa Heinold (Charleston, Ill./Charleston) also cracked an all-time top-five, clearing 10'6" in the pole vault, tied for third-best in Valpo history. Her effort was good for a tie for fourth place.
Valparaiso looks to put it all together this coming week as the Crusaders travel to Kansas City, Mo. to take part in the Mid-Con Outdoor Championships. The three-day meet begins Thursday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m.
