Three Crusaders Post Top-Five Program Marks Friday at Michigan

Saturday, January 23, 2010 Jarrett Mickens (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley), Steve Schubert (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) and Nick Babbitt (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) all posted marks in their respective events among the top-five in Crusader history as the Valparaiso men's track and field team competed on the first of two days at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. Friday. Mickens and Schubert each posted top-five all-time marks in the triple jump on Friday. Mickens leapt 45'5 1/4" for a second-place finish in the triple jump, the third-farthest leap in program history. Right behind him was Schubert, who posted a mark of 44'8 3/4" to move into fourth place on Valpo's all-time chart in the event. Meanwhile, Babbitt launched a big toss in the weight throw, registering a distance of 49'6 1/2" for his sixth-place finish, the fifth-best mark all-time in Crusader history. Elsewhere Friday, Mickens also paced the Crusaders with a seventh-place showing in the long jump, leaping 20'10 1/2", while Andrew Rixon (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 39'10 3/4". The Crusader runners will take the stage Saturday on the second day of the two-day meet, taking to the track at 11 a.m. CST. |
