Valparaiso University head golf coach Mike Higdon has announced that both Kyle Henning and Thomas Wettstein have signed National Letters of Intent to play golf for the Crusaders beginning in the fall of 2010.

Henning, a native of Brookfield, Wis., was a Third Team All-State selection for Brookfield East High School as a junior.  He finished 14th at the 2009 Wisconsin State High School Tournament, the same season he averaged 75.7 for 18 holes and 37.5 over nine.  Henning was the Greater Metro Conference Player of the Year in 2009 after earning runner-up honors as a sophomore.

“Kyle has the proven track record of consistent play in the mid to lower 70s and is looking to better his 14th place finish in the high school state tournament,” Higdon said.  “He has produced the scores to finish solid in national junior tournaments and I am looking forward to watching his game develop further over the next four years.”

Wettstein, a native of Appleton, Wis., was an All-State selection as both a sophomore and junior for Xavier High School.  As a junior he averaged 37.9 over nine holes and is a two-time First Team All-Eastern Valley Conference selection.  In 2009, Wettstein was runner-up for conference Player of the Year, shooting a school record 31 in a nine-hole match that same season.  He is also an All-State hockey player.

“Thomas has a proven track record of being able to score low with rounds of 31 and 33 in high school tournaments,” Higdon said.  “He adds the element of being able to go under par during any given round.  With his hockey background there is no doubt about his athletic ability and hitting the ball far.  He is currently focusing more on consistency and accuracy which I believe will allow his game to reach many new levels.”

“I am excited about what both Thomas and Kyle are able to bring to the university as All-State golfers and academic honor students,” Higdon concluded.  “These two players will add to the excitement of this golf program and I look forward to them contributing from day one.”
