Kleckner Wins Tennesee Fall Classic, Valpo Finishes Second

Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale H.S.) won her first collegiate tournament on Tuesday, cruising to a seven stroke victory at the Tennessee State Fall Classic held at Morningstar Golf Club in Indianapolis, Ind. As a team Valparaiso finished in second place, one shot behind tournament champion Chicago State.
Kleckner fired a second round 77 to finish the two day event at 152, setting a new Valparaiso University 36-hole scoring record.
Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) shared the team’s low round of the day at 77 with Kleckner to finish the 36-hole tournament at 161.
Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) carded an 83 to finish at 164 for the Crusaders while Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) shaved four strokes off of her opening round to shoot 82, finishing at 168.
Freshman A.J. Selig (Hortonville, Wis./Appleton West H.S.), playing as an individual, fired an 80, an eight shot improvement from Monday, to post her lowest score as a collegiate. She finished the tournament at 168.
Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) added her second straight 86 to post a total of 172 while Kathleen Cooper (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) took off 12 shots from round one to card an 89 and finish at 190. Alyssa Cameron (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw H.S.) also finished at 190 after shooting 101 on Tuesday .
As a team Valpo shot 319 in the final round, the lowest of the season to finish the tournament at 645. Chicago State fired a team score of 316 on Tuesday though, making up its two stroke deficit to the Crusaders and winning the team title by one.
Valparaiso will return to the links next week for the Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind. on October 3-4. Play will begin at 8 a.m. CDT at Highland Golf and Country Club on each day with a shotgun start.
