Chadwick to Join Valpo Men's Basketball Program
Tuesday, April 24, 2012
Valparaiso men's basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced today that David Chadwick has committed to join the Crusader program. Chadwick, who played for two seasons at Rice, will sit out the 2012-2013 season due to NCAA transfer regulations and have two seasons of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2013-2014 campaign.
“David is going to be a great addition to our university and basketball program,” said Drew. “He is a very skilled player who carries a 3.5 GPA. We are looking forward to having his work ethic and determination as part of our practices next season.”
Chadwick, a 6'9”, 220 lb. forward, appeared in 52 games at Rice over his two seasons with the Owls. The Charlotte, N.C. native spent a post-graduate season playing at Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham, Va.) prior to arriving at Rice, starting for a Wildcats squad which reached the #1 ranking nationally, finished their season 24-1 and were semifinalists at the National Prep Championships.
Chadwick played his high school basketball at Charlotte Latin School, earning a spot on the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association All-State Team as well as earning First Team All-County honors as a senior. He averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks per game in his final season with the Hawks, shooting 53 percent from the floor.
Chadwick is the third newcomer to commit to the Crusaders during the spring signing period. He joins LaVonte Dority and Jordan Coleman as transfers who will be part of the Valpo men's basketball program next season.
