Valparaiso sophomore sprinter Julian Smith (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) brought the Crusaders' 2012 outdoor track and field season to an end on Thursday, as he competed in the 100m dash at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla.

Smith ran in the first of six preliminary heats held on Thursday, used to determine who would advance to Friday's quarterfinal heats. The sophomore crossed the line in his heat with a time of 10.96 seconds, which ranked 45^th in the field, but wasn't enough to advance to Friday's action.
