Valparaiso volleyball head coach Carin Avery and the Crusader volleyball team will host its annual summer camp from July 9-12, 2012 at the Athletics-Recreation Center on the Valpo campus. The camp is open to both girls and boys, grades 5-12.

Valparaiso volleyball head coach Carin Avery announced today that Chelsey Tekavec, a 5’10” right side/libero from Solon, Ohio, has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Crusader volleyball program as a freshman in the fall of 2012.

The Valparaiso volleyball team tied for league-high honors, placing four players on the Academic All-Horizon League team for 2011. Sophomore Sarah Dooms (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), redshirt freshman Lindsey Hauch (Coloma, Mich./Coloma), senior Jenny Pokorny (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) and junior Taylor Root (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) all earned the accolade for the combination of their performance on the court and in the classroom.

A force from the right side, Lauren (Moulton) Marshall ranks as one of the top hitters on the volleyball court in Valparaiso University history, and on Saturday, February 4, she will be inducted into the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame.

One of the top setters all-time at Valparaiso University, Katie (Bova) Hoffmann helped lead the Crusaders’ volleyball program to three Mid-Continent Conference titles as well as three NCAA Tournament appearances, and on Saturday, February 4, she will be inducted into the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame.

For the second consecutive season, Valparaiso junior libero Taylor Root (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) has been named an Honorable Mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Root becomes the second player in Valpo volleyball history to twice receive the national accolade.

Junior libero Taylor Root (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) earned All-Midwest Region accolades for the second straight year, while senior setter Jenny Pokorny (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) was named an Honorable Mention All-Midwest Region recipient for the second time.

Valparaiso junior Taylor Root (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) has been named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year as the league released its postseason award winners on Monday afternoon. Root also earned All-League honors for the third year in a row, while senior Jenny Pokorny (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) earned repeat All-League accolades as well. Freshman Morgan Beil (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette) joined her pair of upperclassmen teammates on the All-League team and also was a member of the All-Newcomer squad.

The Valparaiso volleyball squad has been predicted to finish in a tie for third place in the Horizon League in 2011, as chosen by the league’s nine head coaches. The Crusaders picked up one first-place vote and tallied 51 points, finishing just one point out of the second position.

The Valparaiso volleyball program’s tradition of excellence rolled on in 2010, as the Crusaders won 27 matches and advanced to the Horizon League Championship match for the second time in four years. It marked Valpo’s ninth consecutive 20-win season, making the Crusaders one of just 12 teams nationwide to have won 20 or more matches nine straight years. With 11 letterwinners, including four starters, returning in 2011, hopes are high for Valpo to capture a Horizon League title and extend its stretch of 20-win campaigns.
