Valparaiso graduated senior Natalie Cortese (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates [Central Missouri]) has been named to the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Academic Third Team for her work on the lanes and in the classroom during the 2011-2012 school year. In addition, five other Crusaders were named All-Academic honorees by the NTCA.

Valparaiso bowling head coach Matt Nantais announced today that Raychel Wolever, a three-time First Team All-State honoree from Charlotte [Mich.] H.S., will join the Crusader bowling program as a freshman for the 2012-2013 season.

Valparaiso senior Natalie Cortese (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates [Central Missouri]) closed out her illustrious Crusader career with one more honor Saturday night, as she was named one of five members of the 2012 NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team after pacing the tournament field in Thursday's traditional action with a 218.4 average.

Valparaiso stayed alive in an elimination match at the 2012 NCAA Championship at Freeway Lanes in Wickliffe, Ohio Friday morning by defeating Sacred Heart, 4-2, but the Crusaders would eventually fall to Nebraska 4-3 in another elimination match Friday afternoon to end their hopes of capturing the national title.

Valparaiso started its quest for a national championship Thursday at Freeway Lanes in Wickliffe, Ohio, going 2-2 over the morning session’s four matches before dropping all three matches in the afternoon session to end the first day of competition at the 2012 NCAA Bowling Championship with a 2-5 record and the eighth seed to begin Friday’s bracket play. Senior Natalie Cortese (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates [Central Missouri]) led the entire tournament field in average on Thursday, posting an average of 218.4 over the seven matches.

Valparaiso got in its final preparations for the 2012 NCAA Bowling Championship on Wednesday, culminating with the annual NCAA Championship banquet, where senior Natalie Cortese (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) was honored for the second straight year as an NTCA Honorable Mention All-American. The three-day tournament begins at Freeway Lanes in Wickliffe, Ohio Thursday morning at 8 a.m. CDT.

In its third season of intercollegiate competition, the Valparaiso bowling program makes its first trip to the NCAA Championship, as the Crusaders hit the road today as one of eight squads selected to compete for the 2012 national title April 12-14 in Wickliffe, Ohio.

A journey which began in February 2009 with the introduction of the women’s bowling program to the Valparaiso University athletics department took a giant step forward on Wednesday, as the Crusaders learned they were one of eight programs selected to compete at the 2012 NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship in Wickliffe, Ohio on April 12-14. The bid is Valpo’s first to the national championship in just the third year of program existence.
