Drozdowski Takes First at Day One of the HL Indoor Championships

In record breaking fashion, Sarah Drozdowski (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) finished first in the weight throw to lead the Valparaiso women’s track & field team at day one of the Horizon League Indoor Championships.

Drozdowski cleared 62’6” in the weight throw, breaking her own school record by over a foot. The senior out-threw the second-place finisher by nearly ten feet. This is Drozdowski’s first individual championship in the weight throw. Drozdowski’s mark stands as the all-time second-best mark at the Horizon League Indoor Championships in this event.

Megan Howdeshell (Bourbon, Ind./Triton Junior-Senior) took a fifth-place finish in the same event, clearing 50’4 ¾”.

In the pole vault, Sarah Peters (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) cleared 10’11 ¾” for a fifth-place finish.

On the track, the Valparaiso ‘A’ distance medley team finished third, clocking in at a season-best 12:01.70. The squad was comprised of Claire Johnson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), Kelli Wosick (Mount Prospect, Ill./Saint Viator), Nicole Zehel (Wixom, Mich./Lutheran Westland), and Elizabeth Bloy (Freedom,Wis/Freedom).

After the first day of competition, the Crusader women sit in sixth-place with 20 points. The Horizon League Championships continue Sunday afternoon at the Watson and Tressel Training Site at Youngstown State. A link to the live stats and video will be available at ValpoAthletics.com.
