The Crusaders Claim Five First-Place Finishers at Puma Invite

Adam Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./Normal), Mark Pinnow (Columbus, Ind./Trinity Lutheran), Jeremy Getz (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Justin Zosso (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton), and Jacob Frey (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) each captured first-place finishes for the Crusader men on Saturday at the Puma Invitational in Rensselaer, Ind.
Bruno captured a first-place finish in the 1,500-meter run, breaking the tape in 4:15.01. Bruno also finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:09.59).
Pinnow finished first in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in 59.82. Pinnow also took second in the 110-meter hurdles (18.19).
In the javelin, Getz took a first-place finish with a throw of 170’6”, while Elijah Owen (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) filled the runner-up position with a clearance of 167’2”.
Zosso and Jordan Kelly (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) each cracked Valpo’s all-time best list in the pole vault. Zosso’s height of 14’ 3 ½” was good for fourthall-time, while Kelly clearance of 13’9 ¾” was good for fifth. The Crusader teammates finished first and second, respectively.
Frey took the top spot in the hammer throw, clearing 164’9”. Jacob Smutz (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) placed second in the same event (160’6”). Smutz and Frey also finished third and fourth in the discus. Smutz cleared 135’4”, while Frey threw for 134’8”.
In the 800-meter run, Dan Walters (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) took second with a time of 2:06.04.
Andrew Butts (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) captured a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.89. Butts also took second in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 49.77.
In the 100-meter dash, Ryan Shea (Tampa, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch) and Drew Baker (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg) finished third and fourth, respectively. Shea clocked in at 12.24, and Drew at 12.27.
Kevin Adamik (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) finished third in the long jump (19’9 ¼”).
Up next for the Crusaders are the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. The four day event begins on Wednesday, March 26th.
