Valparaiso men's basketball freshman Alec Peters (Washington, Ill./Washington) and women's basketball junior Sharon Karungi (Kampala, Uganda/ [Northern Oklahoma College]) have been named the Valparaiso athletic department's Athletes of the Month for the month of November.

Junior recorded double-doubles in both Valpo wins this past weekend at the Toledo Invite. Karungi is currently averaging 11.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

A Sharon Karungi putback in the lane with three seconds to go boosted Valpo to a 63-61 victory over Toledo. Karungi was named Toledo Invite MVP; Jessi Wiedemann voted to All-Tournament Team.

All nine Crusaders scored in a 74-50 victory over the Cougars Friday. Karungi, Wiedemann, Horton and Dean all finished in double digits as the Brown and Gold registered their first win of 2013-14.

Women's basketball will battle Chicago State for the 41st time in Toledo on Friday afternoon. The Crusaders have played the Cougars more than any other team in program history. 24 hours later, Valpo will face the host Rockets for the first time ever.

Charae Richardson scored a career-high 23 points Sunday, but a buzzer-beater at the end of regulation gave Montana State new life in overtime. The Bobcats eventually prevailed 96-85. Lexi Miller was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Sharon Karungi tossed in 17 points and gathered 14 rebounds Friday evening, but Florida International defeated the Crusaders 65-47 in the opening game of the FIU Thanksgiving Classic.

Valpo and Florida International meet for the first time in nearly 20 years Friday in Miami. FIU guard Jerica Coley is ranked 9th in the nation in scoring with 25.5 PPG. The Crusaders seek to contain her and claim their first victory at the U.S. Century Bank Arena at 6 pm ET/5 pm CT.

Valpo led Tennessee Tech 78-74 with two minutes to play, but a game-closing 10-0 run by the Golden Eagles proved decisive Sunday in Cookeville. Lexi Miller, Abby Dean, and Jessi Wiedemann all recorded career-highs in points in an 84-78 defeat.

Valparaiso and Tennessee Tech meet for the first time on the basketball court Sunday at 2 p.m. CT in Cookeville. At 1-2, all three of the Golden Eagles' games have been decided by 45 points or more.

Valparaiso women's basketball head coach Tracey Dorow announced today that sisters Elizabeth Hamlet and Annemarie Hamlet, as well as Haylee Thompson, have transferred into the Crusader basketball program. Elizabeth Hamlet will be a fifth-year senior in 2013-14 with immediate eligibility, while Annemarie Hamlet and Thompson will both have to sit out the 2013-14 season and will each have three years of eligibility remaining. In addition, Faith Miller has joined the Crusader program as an incoming freshman for the 2013-14 campaign.
