Valparaiso University director of athletics Mark LaBarbera announced today that Kate Stake has been hired as the new head coach of the Crusader softball program. Stake comes to Valpo with eight seasons of assistant coaching experience at the Division I level, most recently serving as an assistant at mid-major power Hofstra.

The Valparaiso men’s basketball team took a break from summer workouts on Monday to give back to the community of sophomore Alec Peters, whose hometown of Washington, Ill. was devastated by a massive tornado last November.

Sophomore singles player downed Michigan State's Brett Forman 6-4, 6-4 in the finals of Monday's ITA Summer Circuit Event hosted by Western Michigan University to claim first summer singles title since Eric Honert in 2012. Schorsch later teamed up with fellow sophomore Charlie Emhardt to advance to the semifinals of the doubles tourney. Junior Lucas Waak also scored a doubles championship at the Bill Van Lieshout Tournament over the weekend.

Nearly two decades ago, Patty Cisneros lost the use of her legs in an automobile accident. What she went on to accomplish can be described only as awe-inspiring. The Valpo Athletics Hall of Famer, graduate, two-time Paralympic Gold Medalist, newlywed, and proud mother shared her story this past week.
