Taylor Root earned CVU Rising Star accolades. (Ray Acevedo) Valparaiso freshman libero Taylor Root (Jenison,
Mich./Jenison)
has been named one of the Collegiate Volleyball Update’s (CVU.com) ‘Rising
Stars’, honoring 19 freshmen nationwide who stood out with their performance in
their rookie season.
Root receives the
honor from the CVU after being named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year
for 2009 while also earning a spot on the All-League squad. Root led all league players with 5.05
digs/set, good for 29th nationally, and ranked second in league-only
play with 5.31 digs/set. The freshman,
who was named to three All-Tournament teams over the course of the season and
earned Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honors twice, finished her
first year with 586 total digs, a Valpo freshman record and good for fifth in a
single season in Crusader history.
