Callahan Named to Mid-Con First Team; Three Crusaders Earn Second Team Honors

Valparaiso University third baseman Taylor Callahan (Grayson, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian H.S.) was named to the Mid-Continent Conference First Team while three other Crusaders earned Second Team honors from the league as the postseason honors were handed out on Thursday.

Outfielder Megan Carroll (Eaton Rapids, Mich./Eaton Rapids H.S.), pitcher Chris Halstead (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.), and utility player Courtney LaFerle (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) all were named to the league's Second Team.

Callahan finished second on the team in hitting, batting .254 on the season. During league play, the sophomore hit .323 and posted a .986 fielding percentage. She also led Valpo on the season with 16 runs batted in.

Carroll was Valpo's top hitter on the season, posting a .303 batting average. She drove home 41 runs, drew a team-high nine walks, and posted a .350 on base percentage. The sophomore hit .354 against league foes.

Halstead won six games in the circle for the Brown and gold and had a team-high 58 strikeouts. She was 5-5 in Mid-Con play with a 2.41 earned run average. Mid-Con foes hit just .241 against the freshman.

LaFerle tallied ten extra base hits on the season and drove home 13 runs. In Mid-Con action, the freshman hit .320 with a team high ten RBI while recording six doubles.
