Crusaders Drop Opening Mid-Con Twinbill at Centenary

Valparaiso opened Mid-Continent Conference play on Friday evening dropping a doubleheader to Centenary 9-7 and 4-2 in Shreveport, La.

Courtney LaFerle (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) went 3-for-4 in the opener and Taylor Callahan (Grayson, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian H.S.) was 2-for-3 in the nightcap for the Brown and Gold.

Trailing 9-2 heading into the sixth of the opener, Valpo errupted for five runs in the inning to battle back. Beth Adamski (Saint John, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) opened the inning with a homer and the Crusaders took advantage of a pair of Lady errors in the inning.

In the nightcap, Valpo jumped in front in the opening inning on an RBI single by Callahan. After Centenary (12-14, 2-0 Mid-Con) went in front 2-1, Stacy Adamski (Saint John, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to tie the game. The Ladies added single runs in the fifth and sixth to record the victory though.

Chris Halstead (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) struck out seven in the circle in game two.

Valpo (0-15, 0-2) will conclude its four-game weekend series with the Ladies on Saturday with another doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
