Valparaiso freshman catcher Janelle Bouchard (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week after hitting four home runs last weekend for the Crusaders. Bouchard becomes the sixth different Crusader to earn weekly honors from the league office this year, including the fourth different hitter.

Bouchard earned the weekly award after hitting .667 in Valpo's three-game series at Detroit over the weekend. The freshman went 6-for-9 at the plate, scoring four runs and driving in 11 runs. In the series opener, Bouchard launched a grand slam in the first inning which gave the Crusaders the lead for good, and added a solo homer in the sixth inning. Then, in the finale on Sunday, the rookie connected on a pair of first-inning home runs, hitting a two-run shot before capping her weekend by blasting a no-doubt grand slam.

With the 11-RBI weekend, Bouchard now paces all Horizon League players with 40 RBIs on the season, already sixth-most in a single season in Crusader history. She also now boasts a team-high six home runs as well. Bouchard and the rest of the Crusaders return to action Wednesday afternoon with a single game at Purdue.
